Our first 'At Home' for 2010 was a great success - a large number of members attended and the weather was warm and sunny. The local bee inspector was present and led the hive inspections together with the owners.

There were lots of questions on building up colonies in the springtime and advice was given on how to deal with varroa if numbers were still too high. It was also very helpful to see how larger brood boxes were used (Smiths) and to discuss the benefits (or otherwise!) of using them. The owners' bees were very passive and it was a joy to look into their hives and see how they were reacting to the warmer spring weather.

Many thanks to our bee inspector, Pete Haywood, and to our hosts, Clive and Shân . Also to Liz for the catering - excellent as usual.
