My son and I have been experimenting with monitoring the temperature and humidity inside and outside a beehive. Glyn does the fancy electronics, I do the bee stuff.
The first trial corresponded with the cold snowy spell December 2010. I was rather concerned with the low temperatures recorded for the cluster, fluctuating between 7-11C and the very high humidity in the hive due to condensation even though my roofs are well ventilated. The colony survived and now has a large area of sealed brood. We have must completed a second trial 2-9th March. What a contrast: the humidity has reduced and the cluster temperature in amazingly steady at about 34C.
